This closes the CMF's role in its portion of a Heritage fund. By itself it says nothing about whether anything follows it.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced on September 3 in Toronto that seven projects will share $939,999 in the 2026-2027 round of the Changing Narratives Fund. The CMF calls it the final round of its portion of the fund.

According to the CMF, diverse communities lead all seven projects, which aim to build more equitable pathways into Canada’s audiovisual sector. By location, four sit in Quebec and one each in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta. Three will be led in English and four in French. The CMF gave two examples, one for underrepresented documentary filmmakers and producers and one for access to the international immersive dome media sector.

The Department of Canadian Heritage launched the fund in 2024-2025 with $10 million in total. The CMF says it administered $4,456,246 of that money. It describes a first instalment of $2,456,246 in 2024-2025 and a second of $940,000 in 2025-2026, then this 2026-2027 round. The announcement does not break out how those figures relate to the stated administered total.

CMF Vice-President of Industry Development Joy Loewen thanked Canadian Heritage for its trust in the CMF. The CMF says this round completes its administration of its portion.
