Why this matters: our read

The split says nothing about who applied, so it cannot show whether projects elsewhere were passed over.

The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced on August 13 a $6,966,000 investment in 23 one-off point-of-view documentaries through its POV Program.

The English-language side is allocated $4,671,000 for 13 projects. Nine are based in Ontario, three in Quebec and one in British Columbia. The French-language side is allocated $2,295,000 for 10 projects, every one of them Quebec-based. Taken together, 22 of the 23 are in Quebec or Ontario.

The CMF describes the program as selective. It says it weighed market interest, the creative team, creativity and production value, among other things, and it has posted the list of selected projects.
