Telefilm reopens its General Admission Festivals Program on October 20 after supporting 27 festivals

Telefilm Canada said on October 8 that the second intake of its General Admission Festivals Program opens on October 20. Applications run to October 27, 2026, for festivals that start between April 1 and September 30, 2027. Telefilm describes the program as streamlined funding for small or emerging film festivals, and it asks applicants to read the guidelines, the Essential Information Guide and the list of required documents first.

The reminder follows Telefilm’s July 15 announcement of the first round. In that release Telefilm said it was investing $225,000 to support 27 Canadian film festivals that start between October 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027. The list includes the British Columbia Environmental Film Festival and the Ottawa Black Film Festival. As listed, 14 festivals are dated 2026, four are dated 2027 and nine more follow. The list has no language headings, so that split is not Telefilm’s labelling.

Demand for the program remains steady, with 48 eligible applications received in this first intake.

For the first round, Telefilm also reported 48 eligible applications, a level it called comparable to last year. Its decisions, it said, weigh how festivals promote Canadian content and talent, and its aim of a portfolio balanced across regions and voices.

Neither item gives an amount for each festival or a cap per applicant, and the July release does not break the 27 festivals down by region.
